Jerry Uelsmann

I have to thank Phillip Prodger, Curator of Photography at the Peabody Essex Museum for introducing me to one of my earliest heroes in the world of photography: Jerry Uelsmann.

Phillip Prodger, Jim Fitts, Jerry Uelsmann and Jason Landry at the opening of: The Mind's Eye | 50 years of Photography by Jerry Uelsmann and the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA.
I first looked at his work as a senior in high school, more than 20 years ago.  It was through his imagination and technical skills in a darkroom that made me see what being photographer was all about.

His exhibition will be on display at the PEM through July 15, 2012.  Go see it!

Thanks Jerry!

Brian Kaplan - New Work

Panopticon Gallery Photographer Brian Kaplan has been working on a new series of photographs called, I'm Not On Your Vacation.

Life on the outer Cape is much different when the tourists leave town. The bay freezes over, the motels, cottages and restaurants close down...here comes the off-season.  Set on Cape Cod, these large format photographs capture images of a desolate and somewhat abandoned section of the Northeast seacoast and the people who elect to live there year-round.

Portfolio Review Events in 2012

I do a lot of portfolios reviews.  This is where I find and meet many of the artists that I show at Panopticon Gallery.  This year, I have reviewed portfolios at FotoFest in Houston, Texas and at the PRC/Griffin Museum of Photography New England Portfolio Review Event.

Jason Landry reviewing portfolios at LensCulture FotoFest in Paris, France.

For those of you who haven't been to a portfolio review event before, or are looking to go to one, I will be reviewing portfolios at least three more times this year:

Atlanta Celebrates Photography:  Atlanta, Georgia - October 13 & 14

LensCulture FotoFest Paris:  Paris, France - November 12, 13, 14

PhotoNOLA:  New Orleans, LA - December 1 & 2

Click on the links to check them out.  I hope to see you there!
